We're going to try something new this Friday on this Substack.
Think of it as ChatNBA.
Maybe it won’t be as smart as ChatGPT. Maybe the name (which isn’t real) isn't as catchy.
But we're going to give it a whirl anyway to try to capitalize on the technology we do have at our disposal and get together virtually. The goal, if things go well, is to make it a regularly scheduled weekly gathering.
One of the beauties of Substack is the various forums for interaction it offers, whether we're talking Substack Chat or Substack Notes or just old school commenting at the bottom of Substack posts.
I want to take it a step further, though, and schedule a weekly chat for Paid subscribers for us to all know when we’re getting together.
One of the coolest things about Substack Chat is that Paid subscribers to The Stein Line can start chat threads of their own whenever they want. And I will continue to jump into those threads ASAP.
Yet I suspect that scheduling one official group chat per week hosted by moi, when everyone knows it's forthcoming, increases the odds that we'll get a good turnout.
I do need to issue a warning up front that it'll probably take us a few sessions for these to run smoothly, because Substack Chat does not offer an offline queue for me to store questions and then respond to them once selected like my old ESPN.com chats could. It might be a bit chaotic at first when questions are flying at me from all corners while I try to assemble cogent answers.
The upside of a scheduled weekly chat, however, far outweighs potential downsides. So we'll make it Friday at 4 PM ET for our inaugural session and see where it goes from there.
Hope to see you there in Substack Chat!
Let’s Goooooo!
Already in line.
