Chris Paul, James Harden, Kyrie Irving and all the latest transactional talk in this Daily Dime
Suns, Rockets, Sixers, Raptors, Nets, Grizzlies, Bucks, Mavericks, Warriors, Kings, Pistons, Nuggets and Heat ... all covered in a fresh batch of around-the-league notes
1️⃣ Introduction, please
You probably noticed that our latest This Week In Basketball column features both a TWIB graphic and a Daily Dime banner.
This was no accident.
Since I brought back the Dime as a special feature for the NBA Finals, I decided to assemble our latest compendium of around-the-league notes on a Sunday in Dime fashion: 10 separate items of NBA writing stuffed into one file for peak reader convenience.
The goal, as Dickie Dunn might say, was to capture the spirit of the thing.
The primary objective on this Sunday, furthermore, is dedicating this column to a college professor who had a truly life-changing impact on my career path. Jay Berman was a leading instructor at the California Scholastic Press Association high school summer journalism camp I attended even before college and, as the adviser of The Daily Titan, one of the main reasons I chose to attend my beloved Cal State Fullerton.
To quote my dear friend Ken Daley of New Orleans’ WVUE-TV Fox 8, Jay instilled a "fastidious attention to detail, spelling, grammar and accuracy” in so many of his students that (as Ken aptly put it) “I demand from myself and my colleagues to this day." It has indeed been Jay’s editing voice, for as long as I can remember, that I hear in my head as I write. He died Friday at age 83 after a long illness and his incredible career in newspapers, which began in 1961, was captured beautifully in this obituary in his beloved Daily Breeze.
Thank you for EVERYTHING, Jay.
(I know you would never approve of capitalizing EVERYTHING, but it’s unavoidable in this case.)
To the notes ...
