The primary sources of intrigue at Philadelphia 76ers training camp are obvious and indisputable.

When will James Harden join the Sixers after skipping Monday’s Media Day?

Will he join the Sixers after skipping Media Day?

Will he ever play for Philadelphia again after lodging a three-months-old trade request that does not appear close to being heeded?

Related topic that overshadows everything else: How does Joel Embiid feel about this and what might this saga mean for Embiid’s future in Philly?

Yet there’s another significant October storyline to monitor in Philly that I can’t resist digging into — with a publicly known deadline attached — that has (understandably) generated little attention on this side of the Atlantic given the (inevitable) hyperfocus on the Harden situation.
