I recently appeared on Chad Ford's NBA Big Board podcast to discuss my first batch of NBA Power Rankings on Substack. Join Chad and me as we debate our very different rankings ladders
I especially love power rankings the first few weeks in the season, because inevitably some team will get off to a hot start that no one is expecting. And then, we have to decide if it’s real or not, before watching that team eventually settle down into the bottom tier of teams as predicted beforehand.
But, is that a fruitless exercise? I would argue “No Way,” because it gives fans something to root for and hold onto I’m even if the season doesn’t go their way. I usually take a glass half-full approach for every team until probably after Christmas when the writing on the wall can no longer be ignored. Until then, through, I look forward to the “Committee of One’s” rankings how often they are tabulated.
