In honor of the great Grant Wahl, I voiced a Substacked audio essay on LeBron James' historic chase of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar's all-time scoring record ... and the insufficient attention we're giving it
Great moment for LeBron. Looking at the pic, even got my guy, Kenrich Williams, aka Kenny Hustle, in the frame. Lakers could have used his defense tonight... 😔
1) Lebron has to be one of the most under-appreciated guys ever when everyone assumes and expects he will simply roll out and scores 36 points tonight!
2) if he doesn’t, this will feel like the NBA rolling the trophy out in the last minutes of the 2013 finals and having to hurry back into the tunnel after Allen’s shot.
What's the Super Bowl? I vaguely remember that the Rams won it in 1997.
That was great fun and I think part of why LeBron's feat is not getting the attention it deserves is because there are some people who will not anoint him the GOAT no matter what he does.
Love the audio essay, Marc! Hearing your Chick Hearn impression was worth the listen just for that. Keep it up!
Seems like every recent milestone for LeBron has come during a loss or been mired by our despondent seasons. Here’s hoping if he breaks it tonight, it comes in a win. The skyhook would be really cool to see, but so hard to plan for that to happen, much like the record being broken during an unenviable week like this one.
Whether he’s the GOAT, the Longetivity GOAT, GOAT Career, or however people think of him, I’ll always think of the privilege I had in getting to ‘WITNESS’ his entire career play out. Here’s to a few more chapters left to be written…

No matter what, though, still a great night! 👑
LeBron breaks record, Lakers lose. You called it!
He did it! As Brian Anderson said, “LeBron Stands Alone!” 🙌
Two thoughts:
1) Lebron has to be one of the most under-appreciated guys ever when everyone assumes and expects he will simply roll out and scores 36 points tonight!
2) if he doesn’t, this will feel like the NBA rolling the trophy out in the last minutes of the 2013 finals and having to hurry back into the tunnel after Allen’s shot.
I, too, thought there was no way this would stretch beyond last night. The moment where he talked to his sons at halftime was a highlight.
(I will not transfer my allegiance to Kansas City. Sufficient people seem to have done it that KMOX is carrying their radio broadcast)

Keep the audio essays coming, that was great!
