In its 47th season in the NBA, led by the incomparable Nikola Jokić, Denver closes out Miami on the first attempt to finally end its championship drought
“All Jokić did, at 28, was become the first player in league history to lead all players in total points (600), rebounds (269) and assists (190) in a single postseason.”
Good stuff as always, Marc! Man, what a satisfying end to the season that was. Jokic is a wonder.
Two fun things for me about last night: 1) One of my best friends since 1995 is a Denver native and we bonded immediately over the Nuggets, who I loved from afar in Northern KY because of Dan Issel (who my dad always swore was the most dominant player he ever saw in college). The first text from my friend after the game was the Nuggets old "Maxie the Miner" logo. Old school!
2) Seeing a tweet mentioning my old pal Bret Bearup who would've been in his glory last night. (For those who won't know, Bret was an executive with the Nuggets for a few years and a gregarious guy who loved hoops. He passed away five years ago at 56.)
We are entering the arguably the most fascinating stretch of the NBA calendar -- post season, pre draft week; “July 1st,” and then all of July with the Summer League’s and thousands of transactions during the month of July. I hope you run an increased number of columns with NBA rumors and gossip!
Thank you for a great year.

Absolutely insane.

Nice piece as alway. Is it harder for #1 seeds are or they just as dominant?
Lots of swooning there over Jokic. And deservedly so. Here's hoping embiid comes back with more motivation next year.
Agree about the celtics series. Didn't think either would have anything left against Denver.
It's gotten difficult to argue, over the last 20 years, against the notion that it HAS gotten harder for No. 1 seeds.
