Please allow me to commemorate one full calendar year of publishing via Substack and formally welcome you to a Year 2 that, thanks to this #thisleague, is already off to a lively start
Congrats Marc. As a "rookie substacker" myself, it's cool to see it through your lens. Btw, yours is my first and only paid subscription (so far). Keep it up.
Your writing is always must read. Thanks for writing. Also think you made the smart choice leaving the Times. Also appreciate the interaction you provide with readers. You're much appreciated 🙏
I'm NOT surprised at Kyrie's team winning % not playing next to LeBron. I've always found him to seem self-centered in many areas. That stat proves my notion pretty solidly.
I'd love to see him end up getting moved somewhere, so KD can go to a team that he'd really make a difference with (aka Dallas or Phoenix).
I was hopeful that a 3-way trade could have been accomplished with some form of construction of Brunson to Knicks, KD to Dallas and whoever else needed to be added.
Or KD to Phoenix and a package headlining Ayton to Brooklyn.
I actually want to see them whole and see how good the Nets can be. It's ridiculous how little they've actually played together. But that's easy for me to say when my favorite team last played a game in 1978.
I get that as a fellow pure fan of the game. I'm just NOT a Kyrie fan, and I'm a HUGE KD fan.
I'm also a big Luka fan and HUGE Kentucky fan (PHX-Booker of course), so I would love to see either pairing with KD. I can only imagine the shooting tirades they'd have together.
I believe either team would immediately rival GSt in scoring punch, and overall as long as they weren't overly depleted from the trade.
Question : When deadlines, like the option that the Hawks have on Danilo Gallinari on 6/29, come due, is the clock deadline close of NBA business day or 11:59pm eastern time?
Congrats on a year, Marc. After having built a competitor to Substack for five years of my career, it's always painful to subscribe to a publication on the platform -- which means the bar is that much higher for making the decision to do so. Still, your newsletter has been a no brainer and I love reading it every week. Keep going!
Heya Mark, as a loooong time resident of FW and a huge Mavs fan, it was a no-brainer to follow you here. You were the first (and so far only) writer I’ve joined Substack for. (I imagine if Zach ever comes over I’d do the same. Your work is first rate and I appreciate all you do to spread the news of the NBA. Here’s to many successful years!
Would like to let you know that I read your newsletter about your dad as a Holocaust survivor and of Dan Grunfeld's family. I borrowed the book that you recommended By the Grace of the Game by D. Grunfeld from my library, read it, and thoroughly enjoyed it. Congratulations on your one year in as an independent NBA reporter. I enjoy your reporting and writing and look forward to the newsletter each week.
Too too kind Mr. Rathbun. Send my best to No. 21 next time you see him ...still can't believe I had the chance to cover Nique after his trade to the Clips!
To cover his victorious return to the Omni, in my first year after watching so many Hawks games in high school, is one of my all-time career highlights.
Congrats Marc, love the newsletter and will continue to read your stuff wherever your journalism career takes you. On another note, that Kyrie stat is wild!
Congrats and kudos to you Marc for your anniversary and ranking / both are well deserved IMHO! I thoroughly enjoy your insights and your …. It’s leaves a pause to …. Think.
Inquiring minds want to know what Gregg Popovich is thinking about his rookies’, team development, the state of the game, wine, and any topics other than the sad state of our nation. Just putting you on notice of my “wish list.”
Also, Brittany Greiner - yes she made a silly mistake, but how is her family holding up? I heard the US Embassy lacked sufficient staff to conduct a pre-arranged call with BG’s partner - shameful.
Did John Stockton’s son stick with an NBA team or did he land overseas?
Any word on Ben Simmons’ rehab? Is he working with team reps or on his own?
Isn’t there something wrong about the fact that only professional athletes and other millionaires can afford the Mambacita shoe recently released?
Enough of my ramblings. Keep up the good work & THANK HEAVENS for more than content worth more than 280 characters!
Hey, my grandparents got the Saddleback Valley News when they lived in what was called Leisure World and is now Laguna Woods. I do not recall, however, even reading it for the sports page, especially since they also got the OC edition of the LA Times.
Anyway, congrats on a successful first year. I am not in a position to pay for that many Substacks - and there are at least five I follow that I wish I could afford - so I am grateful that we get the free content and the access to the message boards. Here's hoping for much more from you, as we move into the Age of Brunson.
Congratulations on reaching #4 amongst Substack sports newsletters. That's quite an achievement over a relatively short period of time. In my humble opinion, (and I subscribe to five sub stacks) your newsletter would be #1 if you wrote about the Knicks more frequently. JK

Thanks much for constantly reading and commenting. Love your Philly passion.

Woohooo - Congrats, Marc!

Will try to find out on Gallo, pal. Usually 5 PM on options but have to double-check.
Thank you, good sir!

Let’s Goooooooo!!!
Onwards & Upwards! Thanks for allowing us to share in your journey, Marc!
Love seeing the notification that I have a new column dispatched to my inbox. Look forward to many more…
All the best!!! 🏀
Also, one last thing…
I’m Pro-Ellipse, too…
Maybe that’s one of the reasons you’ve always been “My Guy”…
Ellipses…keep the ball rolling…much like #thisleague… 😂

There's only one Greenroom Mamba!

Only a recent subscriber, mate, but have followed your work in the NBA for years so big congratulations on the milestone!
Any particular moments for you in the NBA that are the biggest highlights for you and your reporting?
Lastly! Any advice for those wanting to run a similar route? Or just advice in general in sports reporting and news?
Congrats again, Marc!
Deep questions that I will try to answer post-free agency madness!
Congratulations and thank you!! This has been awesome, you’re awesome, and NBA fans are so much more knowledgeable because of it!
Too too kind Mr. Rathbun. Send my best to No. 21 next time you see him ...still can't believe I had the chance to cover Nique after his trade to the Clips!
I shall! Nique was one of the Clips all-time greats! All-NBA!

PS - the Kings’ Only If post was torture.
Lots of good questions. Will work on getting some answers.
