That note about LaMelo's recent FGA/game made me look up the all-time leaders, which I'd never thought about before. Wilt has the top four seasons and five of the top seven -- he took almost 40 shots per game in 61-62! Iverson and MJ are the first names from the modern era, coming in at #13 and #14 with 27.8 FGA/game.

As hard as it for me to type it, even at 18, that still seems too high for the Lakers... :-/

But looking at the teams behind them, 18 is probably the right spot.

Before the season, I did not think they would make it even in the play-in. But, we got off to a good start and I thought JJ could maybe make a 5+ win difference.

But reality has set in. This roster is still deficient in athleticism, 2-way players, & defensive intensity -- to name a few things.

They have trades to make, but I doubt they make them. The Lakers front office has been looking for any excuse to not make any moves. This most recent stretch, followed by the continued (& eternal?) absence of Vando, makes me think they have more than enough reasons to just let the LeBron and AD era fade into memory... 😣

Marc, I agree with the intro I’ve been reading you following you for over two decades. One of the things that separates you from the others in my mind is your not bias you call balls and strikes fairly and you tell it like it is. That was one of the biggest reasons I signed up to get on the Substack when you started it. Mavs are a real backup 4 away from making them a top 3 team. Mavs definitely have upgraded the roster to the point that in Luka’s absence in the past, this team would not have done what it is doing this year. Nico has done a phenomenal job. Thanks

A great read on my lunch break (PST), perfectly timed in my inbox. My one "complaint": you need to use the updated Clippers logo!
