In an age inundated with an abundance of content, the act of rewatching something has become increasingly rare. Except maybe revisiting a movie initially seen in theaters, especially if a family members caught it during its cinematic run, prompting a second viewing at home with the entire family. In the Martinez household, three films have earned a place in our rewatched favorites.
First up, we've got "Rocky III." Man, did I wear out that VHS tape with 13 viewings back in my youth. Then there's "Snow White," a timeless classic that my now-grown twin daughters practically wore out with over 30 plays on the VCR. Finally, "Cars" holds a special spot, having been enjoyed by my 19-year-old daughter a total of 9 times.
Interestingly, while I vividly recall Apollo Creed's presence in the first three "Rocky" films, I had completely forgotten his dead in Rocky IV. Such is the power of nostalgia and the selective memory that accompanies our cinematic experiences.
Marc, like you I will miss Carl Weathers. He will always be Apollo Creed to me but to my kids he is Karga from the Mandalorian and Chubs from Happy Gilmore. He really was a talented actor. I will also remember him in the red, white and blue shorts in the ring. RIP Carl.
Marc, Like you the Rocky trilogy meant so much to me. Every time the character Apollo Creed made the Movies 1-4 something that left an impression on me to this day. Carl’s passing on Friday felt like I lost a friend. Even though I never had the opportunity to meet him. Thank you for sharing your experiences and thoughts Sylvester Stallone has a great saying that I think is appropriate Keep Punching 🥊 Ty Marc
