With the Raptors - I think two things

1. If they don't get the deal they want - it's wise to wait. We don't need a "fire sale" or settle for multiple first round picks that fall 22-30

2. This increases the pressure on Nurse now. Masai/Bobby seem to really believe in their process and core - this could expedite a change in voice if the players do not respond after holding firm at the deadline.

And tonight's debacle will add alot more discussion to the team.

76ers move reeks a smelly stench. I'll reserve full judgment until I see him play, but seriously, I guy worth 6 billion who is trying to buy into the NFL is worried about saving on the tax? This is the kind of move that has me ready to boycott if this team still can't reach the finals. For a team that just lost to Boston with 4 starters?!?!

I cannot wait for your to start your Sixers Substack. McDaniels was a player in-demand and has some upside, so "smelly stench" is a step too far for me, but I do understand your fury here. I'm a Thybulle fan and I totally get why you don't want to hear about the tax.

Like I said I reserve complete judgement until I see him in uniform but he shoots worse 3s than thybulle and defense not as good for a team that has no perimeter defense. If doc let the kid play more maybe he'd better on offense

Without 4 starters

Hi Marc. Besides the KD trade, what was the biggest surprise to you from this deadline? Did anything come completely out of left field? Or were the signals there for these moves?

I think I have to go with Toronto's non-trades. That the Raptors only move was ADDING Poeltl ... no one called that in advance.

Well, now that trade deadline has passed, I’m glad to see people’s opinions around the league seem to be generally positive for the Lakers moves.

I think most fans today feel we are (surprisingly) much better positioned in the short-term and long-term with the moves we made, which was the stated goal all-season long. Granted, we would have wanted more high-end talent, but all things considering, I think Lakers fans like where we are at today, much more so than we did last week!

As far as expectations, I don’t think any fans are deluding themselves into thinking we are now contenders, but I think we could make it out of the play-in game and give Denver a run for their money, for example. The other teams, not so sure.

But, the moves made before this deadline signal a sharp, forward-thinking mindset from the front office that has been non-existent for many years now. We hope this indicates a stronger influence from Jesse & Joey Buss, but whoever was making moves yesterday, it’s a step in the right direction for what seemed like a rudderless ship. 👍👍

The main issue for the Lakers now, which I failed to cover well in the piece but did address in Friday's podcast, is that they're in such a hole. They gotta go on a run like yesterday.

Yeah, you are correct there. And, as Chris said, LeBron’s lingering foot issue is concerning, as well.

Glass Half-Full: our schedule, I think, is one of the easier ones the last 26 games.

However, as we saw with OKC the other night, no wins are ‘gimmes’ these days.

I know Kyrie has issues off the court - but on the court - compare the prices paid for Durant vs. Kyrie - seems like good smart work by Dallas. They are my pick to burst of the pack as you suggested someone would. That backcourt is unstoppable and guessing Kyrie buys in for the time being....

You may be right, but one of the “off the court”. Issues with Kyrie is the ability to stay ON the court. Also one wonders how this team will get stops. But we shall see!

Totally agree with Ron's summary. On-court dependability and reliability are how the Kyrie-to-Dallas deal will be judged.
