Is there a chance Ainge was never trying to “tank,” but media just looked at the trades, looked at the Cs/Brooklyn trade and made assumptions? Or did Ainge really just fall into a surprise here? It’s wild not just how good the Jazz are but how fun they are.

I believe it is the latter.

I think your math is a bit off on the Simmons in Philly stat - perhaps by 365 days. 886 days would be in 2020 and no one was playing basketball that Spring or Summer. Perhaps you meant 521 days.

Good catch. Ran it without double-checking.

I would say the list of draftees is an indicator that missing the playoffs is no guarantee that a team shifting draft pick follows. An indictment of management and scouting?

I never like tanking. Seeing teams just putting together good rosters and playing good ball is so much more fun. But also, I remain skeptical about all and every unicorn out there. I will not believe Wembanyama is all that and a bag of pomme frittes till he's in the league three years and doesn't get injured all the time. Better to play for now with an eye towards then supplementing it as you go along than to tear it all down on a maybe.

Agree; however, the assumption here is that this is a Lebron/Duncan., generational player. If you can play solid winning basketball like the Jazz is doing, that’s ok, but if you are mediocre, the middle of the pack might as well try the bottom.
