My guess is that the Hawks offer some front office part of the job (Basketball ops) so that it looks like a promotion to avoid compensation, if possible.

Huge statement that Snyder went ahead and took the Hawks job without waiting for more suitors to ratchet up his contract. Really amazed at it all!
I am a bit, too. Suggest that the Hawks knew they could get him and that's why they dismissed Nate when they did.
